On Friday, December 17, the Fr. Józef Jarzębowski was visited by soldiers of the 191st United States Regional Support Group from Puerto Rico stationed at the 33rd Air Transport Base in Powidz.
Poland hussars and Tadeusz Kościuszko
The soldiers came to us with their commander, Col. Paul Dahlen.
The guests participated in a museum lesson led by Patryk Kazuś and Robert Adamczyk.
The soldiers got acquainted with the history of the museum, found out who the hussars were and what role they played in the history of Poland, as well as where Polish hetmans obtained the knowledge necessary to conduct victorious combat operations.
The main lecture, however, was built around two characters: Tadeusz Kościuszko and Kazimierz Pułaski. The Poles contributed to the American Revolutionary War and made considerable contributions to the American cause.
During the lesson, the soldiers heard a lot of interesting facts, including a gift that Thomas Jefferson received from Tadeusz Kościuszko.
Especially for our guests, we took from the museum storehouse letters signed by Tadeusz Kościuszko and Kazimierz Pułaski, Polish sabers from the 17th century, a morion helmet and a powder case from the 17th century.
Declaration of Independence from the nineteenth century
During museum lessons, participants have the unique privilege of having personal contact with the exhibits. So you could pick up selected sabers or try on a helmet!
It is impossible during individual sightseeing.
Thanks for your visit and see you soon!
